Why I Choose to Teach Everything I Make
People often ask me why I conduct workshops and teach how to make all the products that I also sell through Suffuse. They wonder if I’m creating my own competition. But I see it very differently.
First of all, I, being a single formulator and soap-maker, simply cannot cater to all the consumers out there. The demand for honest, handmade skincare is growing, and one person can only do so much.
Secondly, our handmade natural products are quite rare and relatively expensive. Many consumers are still unaware of why they are better than commercial skincare. So, the more number of makers who share their creations and knowledge, the more awareness we build among consumers. This helps grow the market for the entire handmade industry - not just for me, but for all of us.
- When someone experiences a soap made with real oils, butters, and botanical extracts, they begin to feel the difference.
- Understanding ingredient labels and seeing how products are made gives people the confidence to choose better for their skin.
- Fresh, small-batch skincare often focuses on balance, nourishment, and skin feel, something that’s hard to replicate at scale.
- Many people come to our workshops curious, but leave with appreciation for the time, skill, and intention behind every bar, scrub or cream.
Lastly, when I prepare to teach, I am required to structure my process and create systematic tutorials. In doing so, my own knowledge becomes clearer and deeper. Teaching, in fact, sharpens my understanding and helps me improve further as a formulator.
