From Kitchen to Curing Rack
At Suffuse, every bar of soap begins with intention. What looks like a beautifully swirled block is actually the result of a detailed, hands-on process that blends art, science, and patience. Here’s a peek behind the scenes.
1. Ingredient Selection
We begin with edible-grade base oils like coconut, sunflower, castor, and Palm, chosen for their cleansing and conditioning properties. Special bars may also include skin-loving oils like olive, almond, avocado, hempseed, or jojoba, plus rich butters like shea, cocoa, kokum, and mango.
2. Creating the Soap Batter
Each recipe is formulated precisely. We blend our oils and lye water at the right temperature, creating the soap from scratch using the traditional cold process method. Natural additives like fresh fruit or vegetable purées, milk, yogurt, or clays may be added to this batter.
3. Color & Fragrance
Imported, skin-safe micas and cold process-stable fragrances are added to bring the soap to life. Swirling techniques are chosen depending on the design. Each bar is a small canvas of controlled creativity.
4. Pouring & Molding
We pour the batter into molds, sometimes using dividers, piping tools, or textured tops depending on the design. Each pour is unique and done by hand.
5. The Curing Process
Once unmolded and cut, the bars are left to cure on racks for 4 to 6 weeks. This allows the water to evaporate and the soap to harden, resulting in a longer-lasting, gentler bar for you.
6. Final Touches
Once cured, soaps are trimmed, labeled, and packaged by hand, ready to be shipped to your doorstep or displayed at a market stall.
It’s a slow process but we believe good things take time.
