What You'll Learn
We'll begin with the basics of Cold Process soap making and help you understand the role of different ingredients used in a soap recipe. You'll learn about edible-grade oils, ingredients, soap-making terminology, skin-safe colours and fragrances, and how each of these contributes to the finished soap.
Safety is an important part of soap making, especially when working with lye. You'll learn the essential safety precautions, suitable equipment and good working practices needed to make soap safely and confidently.
You'll also be introduced to Lye Calculators and Soap Calculators, and learn how they are used to create or modify soap recipes. A beginner-friendly recipe will be provided so you have a reliable starting point for your own soap-making experiments.
Once your soap is made, we'll also discuss curing, usage and proper care of handmade soap, so you understand what happens after the soap leaves the mould and how to get the best results from it.
Make Your Own Batch of Soap
The highlight of the workshop is the hands-on session. Under guidance, you'll make your own 500g batch of Cold Process soap from scratch using the techniques covered during the workshop.
You'll get to work with the ingredients, measure and prepare your batch, bring the soap batter to the correct stage and learn how to handle the process with confidence. Your finished batch is yours to take home and continue caring for through the curing process.
